It’s here, it’s here! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! I grew up in Alaska, and in Anchorage, Nordstrom is the only higher end department store in town. And the state. When it was Nordstrom sale time, people were waiting outside the doors before they opened … and the anniversary sale, their best sale of the year, was insane. Like Black Friday, except (usually) nobody was wearing pajamas. So for me, getting excited over this sale is ingrained. I can’t help it …
You can do early access right now if you’re a Nordstrom card holder; everyone can see what’s on sale, but if you’re like me and don’t have a Nordstrom card, you have to wait until July 21 to order.
There are a few intriguing items in the beauty department this year. Nordstrom often gets in special bundle deals and limited editions for their sales. If you want to see my top picks from the beauty exclusives, keep reading!

First up: the NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil Set, $59 for four full-size pencils and a bag.
Um, dude. First off, these pencils are amazing quality … they’re a comfortable matte lipstick in a chubby pencil form … and they’re $27 for one normally. This is a major deal. There are swatches of both sets on multiple skin tones on the Nordstrom page if you want to see these in action.
My next pick from the Nordstrom sale is a cult classic in skincare, a two-pack of Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant from Paula’s Choice.
You get two full-size bottles for $35. If you’re unfamiliar with this product, it’s a BHA (beta hydroxy acid) exfoliator, or in easy terms, a toner. BHAs are very good at getting into and cleaning out pores, so if you’re prone to blackheads they’re probably a good choice for your skin. I think BHAs are good for athletic people or people that wear a lot of sunblock and/or makeup, too, because they really help get your pores totally cleaned out.
If you’re newer to makeup, you may not have much in the way of brushes. Quality tools, in my opinion, make more of a difference than how much you spend on your cosmetics. Plus, they last a lot longer.
Nordstrom is offering a couple brush sets from MAC that are a good value, like this set for about $50. MAC brushes typically are very good, though I have had some from these value kits that are kind of scratchy and not up to their usual quality standard. But the upside, Nordstrom has free, hassle free returns (they even pay the return shipping).
This obviously isn’t all of the goodies they have. There are even Charlotte Tilbury products on sale (this doesn’t seem to happen much, if ever, and that shit’s expensive!). If there’s a product you love, love, love like a body lotion, cleanser, etc., it’s worth checking the site for it as they roll out a lot of special edition jumbo packaging on popular items. If you’ve been considering a cleansing device like a Foreo or a Clarisonic, those are pretty heavily discounted right now, as is the face firming NuFace device (which, if you use as directed, really is supposed to firm your face! Whaaaaaat?!).
